2009 Championship Results

Once again, Miss Daisy comes home with hardware.

As one of 36 regional winners in the Curie division, we took on some of the top teams during the 3-day championship held in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome April 16-18. Miss Daisy was seeded 30th out of 87 teams at the end of qualification rounds, with a record of 4-3-0. We were picked by teams 816 and 245, together forming the 6th seeded alliance. Our alliance made it all the way to the divisional semi-finals before losing to the Curie Division winners and Championship Finalists.

Off the field, we had even more success. All of our community and international outreach caught the attention of the judges and won us the Championship Engineering Inspiration Award! Championship EI is the 2nd most prestigious award of the competition. This was also the first medal-winning award we’ve won since Daisy won Galileo in 2003! Our good friends the Techno Ticks, Team 236, took home the Championship Chairmans Award.  Congratulations!!

Of course, our team had fun activities planned for when we weren’t competing, too. Thursday night was the Robo-Prom, a robotics-only dance held each year at the Championship. Friday we went to FIRST® night at the Georgia Aquarium, and Saturday we ended our stay with fireworks at the FIRST® Finale in Centennial Park. We had such a great time!

Sunday afternoon we were back on the plane, our medals and trophies in tow. This has been an amazing year for Miss Daisy, but we never would have done it without the support of our coaches and parents. Thank you!
